Something that the Lord recently revealed to me is that one of the main roots of depression is self worth; not knowing that you’re worthy and good enough for not only other people but for yourself as well. You spend more time criticizing yourself than you do complimenting. You often wonder whats wrong with you, or “why am I this way”? You question who you’re as a person, whether your life is making enough of an impact in others lives to even continue living. “I doubt anyone would even miss me if I were gone” is something I used to tell myself. But let me tell you, all of those things were lies from the pit of hell. Depression is something that has ran in my family, 90% of all my family members if not all have dealt with depression and/or still do. I had depression from early middle school to mid high school. I had dealt with it for a while, on and off. Sometimes I would be great and happy and then other times I’d feel the heaviness of depression. I spent countless nights crying myself to sleep because I didn’t know how to help myself. I didn’t know how to get the negative voices in my head to silence. Every flaw that I’ve ever had was constantly being brought up in my head as well as every mistake I’ve ever made. I would even feel crazy at times. I would watch TV all day long to numb the pain. I was running, I was searching but every place I turned to for healing left me more broken than the last. I felt so isolated from God, I didn’t even have the strength or courage to pray and ask for help. At one point, I felt as if it was a punishment from him for all the stuff I’ve ever done wrong in my life but let me tell you that was the FURTHEST from the truth. God didn’t give me depression nor did he ever want me to be depressed. It Breaks God’s heart to see His people in bondage. Depression is a spirit of heaviness from the devil. He Wants you to feel isolated like there is no way out except to commit suicide. He is a liar. The Word says in John 10:10 “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” The devil wants you to think that you are nothing. He is afraid of the light inside of you. He knows that your destiny involves destroying him and that’s why he does everything he can to destroy you or in this case influence you to want to commit suicide or remain oppressed. With Christ there is SO much you can do especially when it comes to fighting against the enemy however without Christ we don’t have the power or authority to do anything (John 15:5). This is why the Word emphasizes walking in the ways of the Lord and adhering to its principles because if not we can open ourselves up to the attacks of the enemy. The devil only has access to terrorize your life when you give him legal access to.
We give him legal access by the result of sin, transgression and iniquity. I won’t get into that too much for this post but if you’d like to look up some verses explaining these things here are a few: Proverbs 26:2, Psalm 32:1-2; 51:1-2, Romans 3:23; 8:7.
To clear up any of the lies the enemy has spoken to you:
You are NOT a failure. You are INTELLIGENT.
You are BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME.
You are UNIQUE.
Your Existence does MATTER.
There is only ONE person like you on this Earth so that means No one can do what God has destined for you to achieve or reach the people that you were put on this Earth to reach.
You are LOVED. People in fact would miss you dearly if you were gone.
God DELIGHTS in using Broken things. All of his disciples were originally really messed up people. He doesn’t go for the ones that are “perfect”, God calls the people you would least expect to be a proclamation of his glory, power and goodness.
If you’re currently depressed here are some bible verses to use that can help you overcome this bondage, comment below if you need prayer for this also and I’d be happy to pray for you.
